The Burly-Steven Cline

"I like tearing down old things. They call me 'Wreck It Steve'". Steven has been in construction his whole life. His high school jobs were in construction and he worked for his uncle's excavation company in New Jersey. "It's in my blood," Steven shares, "I really enjoy working with our clients. Tearing things down, repurposing their existing structures and transforming their project into the space of their dreams is one of my favorite things to do." Steven adds, "The kitchen is my favorite place in the world... I LOVE TO COOK!! I know where everything needs to be located for placement and function. And I make a mean lasagna and pasta fagioli!"

Steven is also a football fanatic. "I played for the Kansas State Wildcats. I coach football at Aquinas High School and absolutely love it," Steven says, "I'll admit I'm a little competitive - always trying to be the best." That trait has followed him into his construction work, "I want to produce the best outcome for our clients and smoke the competition!" he admits. "Getting to know our clients personally helps to enhance the entire experience and it makes it fun and more comfortable for everyone," Steven shares, "I work hard to get the final picture and when the project is complete, I love to toast in celebration with our happy clients."

The Girly-Kelly Cook

"I have been a designer for 17 years. I work every day with people to design their dream space. I absolutely love what I do! I love to see the smiles on my clients' faces as they pick out the products to bring their vision to life. I know how important this is to them. I learn so much about them as we work together. As much as I love the satisfaction and pride I feel when a project is completed, it’s always a little sad because it’s like leaving a friend. But I leave them knowing I’ve infused a little of their soul into their home and that makes me happy. So does returning to their home for future projects! We love our clients!"

Kelly brings her mad skills at listening to what you want and combines it with her eye for design to bring it all together to create a space that is uniquely yours. "We have access to products from all over the globe to make your space as original as you," Kelly beams. "Of course, we also find unique, locally made pieces that we love. We are the exclusive distributors for many manufacturers' products you just can't get anywhere else." And if all that isn't enough, they even make their own line of cabinetry, cut their own countertops... basically, they can make anything or build anything you desire.

“The design and build process is so much less stressful on our customers,” Kelly says. “We walk you through the entire process so every detail is nailed down ahead of time. From organizing your budget to choosing products, it’s all done upfront so you don’t have to think about it every time you turn around. Once we get the design scope done, you sit back and let us work our magic.”

Here's Our Story

Cook + Cline Design and Build is the product of burly construction guy meets incredibly creative girl. We're like Kansas City's very own local FIXER UPPER couple! You truly get the best of both worlds. It all starts with Kelly’s incredible eye for space and design. Once she has collaborated with the owners, and gotten a strong idea as to what they want to accomplish with the space, she’s ready to go. As Steven says, “She can see a finished space before the project ever gets started.”

"The design/build process is so much less stressful on our customers," Kelly says. "We walk you through the entire process so every detail is nailed down ahead of time. From organizing your budget to choosing products, it's all done upfront so you don't have to think about it every time you turn around. Once we get the design scope done, you sit back and let us work our magic."

"We are two totally opposite people who share the same vision," Kelly explains. Their masculine and feminine differences balance each other out. Steven is able to keep Kelly's creative genius realistic and feasible, and what she sees in her head, he's able to create, form, and build. "We bring the yin and yang to your project," Kelly quips, "You get the best of both worlds."
